Here's a quick update for everyone.
Josiah had a contrast x-ray done to make sure the surgeons put the g-tube in correctly. It looks good and Josiah has been handling his feeds well. We got to go into the x-ray room with him and Marie got to wear one of the lead vests and be beside him the whole time. Josiah's trach change also went pretty good. He was pretty startled when the trach was removed and freaked (who wouldn't eh?!) but he calmed down once he realized it was all under control. The stoma and area around it looks really good and the doctor was able to get the new trach in really easily. It's kind of scary to see who goobered up the old trach was. After being inside Josiah for 5 weeks the inside was caked with gummy secretions - no wonder he complains every once in a while. The new trach has a spring where the flange meets the hub so that it can bend with Josiah's chin - smart thinking! I'm not going to tell you how much that piece of equipment cost ... just be glad we live in Canada.
Marie and I also got to see for the first time the inside of Josiah's throat because the doctor hooked up the scope to a TV screen. It was really cool, but at the same time we were able to observe the concern they have for Josiah' tracheal malaysia. The inside of Josiah's throat isn't round like it's supposed to be; it's more of teardrop or rounded-triangle shape and it collapses a little as he breathes. Obviously this is a big part of respiratory struggles and could be a big reason why he goes into panic attacks from time to time. You can pray that Josiah's trachea will develop into it's proper size and that he'll always been able to get the air he needs.
Josiah still seems to be not quite himself. His temperature is going down but he is almost completely dormant, which isn't him. You can pray that he doesn't get sick.
Thanks for always keeping us on your radar and hearts. We love you guys.

radar??? haha that's a good one!!! Just checkin in~
Thank you God for being with Josiah today. Continue to be with him tonight Lord. We ask that his fever would drop back down so that his temp. can be normal. We ask for a good proper sleep for him tonight and a more normal activity pattern tommorow so that Marie and Andrew can see him back to his normal self. We ask in faith that his trachia will grow and become of normal shape and size. Be with them all Lord and we thank You for them. Be near to this family Lord.

I feel so sad about all that your baby has had to suffer in his young life already. I am praying daily that God would cover him and help him. Josiah is a fighter! What a feisty little person!
Praise God for all that is available in Canada to help infants who have health issues. I am praying for all the medical personnel that they will do the right things, and for both of you, Andrew and Marie.

Hey, I was just introduced to Josiah through a lady in our church. I'll give more details later, since my gal is out raking the yard by herself. Ryan is my fifteen-year-old, has a trach and a g-tube and has had them since he was a month old. The kid loves life and is forever a joy to raise. Welcome to all the blessings that boys like ours bring into our lives! I'll be praying for Josiah and the entire family. I have the blog bookmarked.

One more comment - while Ryan's had a trach and g-tube for fifteen years, it's best... and much more common... to lose them early on. Whatever the outcome, I know the Lord will carry him and you. God bless all of you!
