Hi Everyone!

I hope you don't mind that I'm scaling back our Josiah updates to one a day, at least during this period of 'maintaining' because there usually isn't a whole lot of new things to pass along.

Josiah had a really good day! As you can tell with the picture above, Grandpa (my dad) was able to hold him for the first time and Josiah behaved pretty good for the whole experience. It seems Josiah's sleeps have been much deeper and more relaxed over the last couple of days. His eyes are scrunched as much, he sleeps longer, and he doesn't wake up when his secretions get bad! Also, he's over 3200 grams (which I just found out means he's over 7 pounds!) Very good signs and we are very glad.

We were able to meet with the 'trache' nurse and the dispatch (?) nurse today in preparation for Josiah's surgery. We still don't have a date for when he'll go into the OR, so if you could pray that God will line Josiah for the right date that would be great! Also, the doctors - as I have previously mentioned - are pretty settled on the fact that Josiah will need a 'trache' and we as parents of course are praying that God will heal him and surprise the doctors here. Please join us in praying for our miracle, that Josiah's trachea will expand to be the right size and firmness, and the swelling and secretions will be minimal!

It was good to be exposed to the basics of the 'trache', to know what to expect in the 5-7 days after the surgery, and to have many of our questions answered. If Josiah does require a trache, we are looking at a minimum of 5 weeks remaining in the hospital, but it could also easily be another 2 months. Really scary to think about, but of course we don't want to rush Josiah's healing and process and we'll take it just a day at a time as God provides and determines. Of course Josiah's feeding needs are a whole other issue, but we'll deal with that after his respiratory situation is handled.

And we've been falling behind on thanking our visitors. A big "Thank You!" goes out to those we've had drop by this week: Grandpa & Marie H., Kelly W., Aunt Betty Lou & Meagan H. and Tanya D., Leanne K., and Tyler & Charity H. (if I've forgotten anyone I'm so sorry!) You guys make our lives a joy.

May God be your hope as he is ours. Blessings.
- Andrew, Marie & Josiah

Keep feeding Josiah those protein shakes with iron in them, I think he likes them a lot and I think they are assisting with his weight and growth...7 pounds?!...that's awesome!!! I think if he continues on really thick shakes his trache will grow and be the right size for him to breathe. I have faith this is possible!!! Now whether God wills it is another thing.

Oh Lord I know you told me today even before I read this post that Josiah was growing a lot or had grown a lot and that he really does love the protein. I pray that you continue to strengthen him into a-- independent able to breathe and live on his own--man devoted to you! I know you can do this Lord, my God Almighty!!! Please have mercy on us and forgive us our sins as we come before you in complete humility...we are a thirsty people, a people that need you and your humility. We come before you with nothing but this little life of yours..."let the children come" I say may the Doctors come to you through this miracle if you so will it! May all who see this little man rejoice in YOU and the life YOU HAVE GIVEN US!!! Be honored and glorified my Lord,

Blessings

Hi Guys,
What a great picture of you with Josiah and your Dad, all you need is to get great grandpa Haak in there and it will be 4 generations of boys! That's pretty cool! We continue to keep your family in our daily prayers, and we trust that God answers all prayers, even if its not the answer we expect or the timing we think is right He hears us and he answers according to His perfect plan and in His perfect timing!! May He continue to bless and encourage you,
Love Daniel and Renee
