Josiah's having a pretty good day. Earlier on there was some concern with his lungs because he seems be drawing inward a lot (demonstrating a lot of effort to take breathes). He still is inwarding a bit, but the x-ray taken showed that his lungs look a lot better than the day did after his trach-op, and the doctors will be giving him ventalin (like an asthma-puffer) over 24 hours to see if that helps him. So far, there isn't any indication that Josiah has pneumonia which would be his most likely danger.
Josiah has been sleeping lots today and doesn't seem to be in much pain post G-Tube-op (last night he was a little upset, but it was probably made worse by the fact he didn't have any food for about 24 hours!). He's no longer on morphine, up to full feeds and will be given Tylenol as needed for pain. We get to hold him a lot more now that he isn't ventilated and we don't need nurse help to get set up, which is so nice. Oh, and Josiah's about 9 and 1/2 pounds now.
Marie and I will attempt a date night tonight (Spidey 3 - how romantic!) because one of Josiah's primary nurses is on. Another thing: Josiah was able to breathe with his 'Swedish nose' for 1/2 an hour: that's the filter piece which attached to his trach. Because it is a filter, it does mean Josiah has to work just a little harder to get the air he needs, so he can't sustain himself for long periods yet (which is normal for infants).
Tomorrow we begin our trach and G-Tube training. Wow. I can't believe that I'm going to be stucking things into my kid's holes.

Hope You guys had fun at Spidy. We went the other night too. Case and myself loved it but one of our daughters was a little dissapointed with it.
I had to do a double take at Josiah without his nose tube. I guess we were so used to it. It looks good to be able to see his face better.
