Josiah is back in the NICU, in the same room (41) but in a different spot, a sperated side room where he can be watched and kept isolated for the next few days.
Josiah is well doped, though he did try to arch his back on his way back from the OR (catching the nurses by surprise, but he didn't do any harm to himself!) Josiah will be on IV for at least the next day, but may be able to get back on milk tomorrow. As long as Josiah is sedated like this, he will also be on a ventilator since he isn't alert enough to breathe on his own yet.
Everything has gone well up to this point. It's hard for Marie and I to adjust to the fact he'll have this appliance attached to him for a while, but it's so wonderful to see his full face again.
Prayer requests: that Josiah will heal fully and quickly, that he will be able to breathe on his own when that time comes, that the community nurses will be in place for when we are ready to go, for strength for Marie and I through these days, and that Josiah will be protected from harm, injury, viruses and infections now and throughout his time on the 'trache'. I have mentioned it before, but Josiah is now much more vulnerable to viruses and infections now that he's on the trache. This is part of the reason there is a 15% risk of Sudden Death for those who live with a trache. Yeah, talk about living under God's mercy.
We may post later in the day, but who knows. Right now we're just adjusting. In ending, I'll post the lyrics to a song that's been on repeat for me. Kudos and back-slaps for anyone who knows the band!

Lord help Marie and Andrew to adjust well to the way things are now as opposed to how they were just a few short hours ago. Thank You Lord that they can still be in NICU where things are familar and friends are close. Provide all the care that Josiah needs and give all those who are looking after him compassion and wisdom each and every time they do anything to him.

Boy your little guy is getting bigger and he is ever so cute. I can try to imagine what it must be like for you seeing him now that you can see his whole face. It is an adjustment even for me just out here in internet land so it must be really different for you. I will continue to pray for all of the needs that you have mentioned in your post. Good lyrics.

Andy, man, it was really good seeing you Saturday... I know it's been hard, and we're still praying like mad for you and Marie and Josiah!
But I have to say, it's the first time I've seen your boy without a tube shoved into his mouth, and well, he looks so much more peaceful and beautiful then before..
May God bless your child, his child, and continue to heal him.
Look forward to seeing you and Josiah (and Marie this time too) again this weekend (twice in a month! amazing!). :)

Just want to let you know that i'm praying for you both and Josiah. I know it must be hard but you have a lot of people here praying for you. We all love you and pray that Josiah heals good and you will all be home before you know it. Love you guys, in my thoughts and prayers. :)

It sure is nice to see that little handsome guys full face. Andrew and Marie you are both so totally amazing even when you do not feel that you are. God knows and sees all. I am happy for you that you are back in NICU with friends and familar faces.

I have found it to be helpful, for myself in times of health crisis, to ask the Lord to be my primary care giver - head of my case - lead physician. I mean it seems obvious - of course he is. But this has helped me have much peace - yes the doctors and nurses all contribute and there are still concerns and many decisions to make - carrying this declaration with me - Lord, you are my primary care giver - has made a big difference in my soul. It's reduced struggle and increased trust that the outcome is in my Father's hands - him being head of the case and all.
I thought I'd offer that testimony to you in case it might make a difference for you and Marie. Even though, like I said - it's obvious.

Just wanted you to know that you continue to be in our thoughts. We are so relieved that little Josiah came through his surgery.
He has the cutest little Cupid's Bow lips! How wonderful you can caress and kiss and touch his oh-so-kissable face!
