Tuesday Afternoon - A Josiah Update
Hey there folks. I'm back in the office here for a day and a bit, and as I wait for my computer to wrap up a couple of things I thought that I'd leave you a post and a pic.
Last night Josiah had some blood work done and it seems that his iron levels are really low. They started to supplement his diet immediately with iron and the doctors are hoping that this is all that will need to be done. Josiah's blood is going to be tested today to determine where his red blood cell count is at. If his RBC's are low they might have to do a blood transfusion, but this is a worst-case scenario after they have exhausted all other possibilities and remedies. So, if you can continue praying for our guy with this in mind that would be great. We are just praying that his RBC count improves and that his iron supplements do the job so that he'll improve his condition. A lot of this is directly related to the fact he's an infant and - like most infants in the NICU - he's had to 'donate' a lot of blood for regular checkups and tests. The doctors haven't given us a timeline or anything to work with here, but we should have a better understanding of how he is responding to the iron and the results of his blood work in a couple of days.
One really amazing and encouraging thing that has sprung out of this whole time with Josiah - and believe me, there are lots of cool stories and positive experiences! - is how we've been able to connect and re-connect with some people. We're getting emails, blog comments, and phone calls from all over as we get to meet new people and also re-meet folks who haven't been a part of our lives for years. So awesome how God can orchestrate this all as paths cross and re-cross again after time. Thanks again - I find myself saying 'thanks' a lot these days! - for all the encouragement and support you guys are sending our way. It's really uplifting to read your comments and emails: know that you're making a difference even when we can't respond back to you directly!
May God's love be founding abundantly in your lives.
- Andrew, Marie & Josiah
