Hey! Marie's a pretty good blogger, eh?! We gotta get her on here more often!
So I'm back in Van and it's really good to be here. Marie is toast. She was stretched too much and went to bed around 3 PM - I haven't seen her since. There's just a lot going on: the stress of having a child here, not eating and sleeping as much as we should, still reeling from the 'brady' episode from Friday night, the depature of good friends from the NICU, and an overall lack of routine. I was able to say hello to her as she was leaving the hospital and that's really about it. Marie's not sick sick, but exhausted sick. She'll most likely bounce back and be herself tomorrow.
But Josiah is doing pretty good. I decided not to hold him just because he did have a few visitors today and Marie held him twice yesterday. Hopefully he'll be having a refreshing rest tonight. But he did has his eyes open with me for about an hour tonight! That was SO AMAZING! I'm a bit of tease and a lot of fun playing and talking with him. I admit it - at point I starting using his hand to 'punch' himself in the face; he didn't seem to mind!
Now I'm going to go check in on him and then head back to Easter Seals for a good night's sleep. Thanks to Monica & Christy H., Diane, and Uncle Gord & Aunt Crystal & Rebeccah, Rachel & Denver H. for all visiting today (yup, I'm pretty sure I misspelled some names in there!)
Thanks for all the love. May you all know God's presence as we have.
- Andrew, Marie & Josiah

Punching your own kid in the face with his own hand??? What were you thinking Andrew?
Haha I get it!
You must be so frusterated...waiting.
My prayer for You Andrew, Marie and Josiah:
"I could ask the darkness to hide [you] and the light around [you] to become night---but even in darkness [you] cannot hide from [Him]. To [Him] the night shines as bright as day, Darkness and light are the same to [Him]." Ps 139:11,12
Now Josiah, God made all the delicate, inner parts of your body and knit you together in your Mother's womb. Thank the Lord for making you so wonderfully complex! Oh Lord, search Josiah, and know his heart; test it and know his anxious thoughts. Point out anything in him that offends you, and lead him along the path of everlasting life. Ps 139...
Lord have your way with this family right now and bless them in return for all the blessings they've shown to those around them. Amen!
Hello Andrew, I found your site through Demara... the weird thing is that I feel like I recognize Marie from somewhere but I don't know where I've seen her. Ask her if she remembers a Lisa-Marie Tew... the only places I can think of is Mission Secondary School (Mission BC), Camp Luther, Mt Calvary Lutheran Church in Mission (I lived in Mission, BC from 1996-2001), or possibly Prairie Bible College in Three Hills Alberta (2001-2005)... your last name Haak sounds familiar too... weird... hopefully she'll recognize me or something... (I'll change my profile pic for her ;) Anyways I'm praying for Josiah
Hi Marie, Andrew & Josiah...
I don't know if you remember us or not...but you met me and my husband (and twin girls) at MSA hospital the day that Josiah was born. (We made the connection that we both know Shawn and Susan Kamstra). Anyway...we just saw Shawn and Susan this afternoon and they passed along your blog address. I just spent some time reading through your story, and my heart goes out to you both. It wasn't too long ago that Graham and I were in your position, spending countless hours at Children's hospital. We can relate to the "brady" and "desat" episodes, and the prayer request to find primary caregivers etc. We also know the theraputic 'outlet' that blog writing can provide :)
We've spent a total of 5 months with our girls in the hospital. Makaila came home 3 weeks ago, and Faith will be joining us at home this Friday. We're absolutely thrilled that we can finally get on with life. Both are girls are healthy and strong...and yet it was only a few months ago that they were fighting so hard to breathe and eat.
Andrew - Our prayers are with you - especially as you try to balance your youth ministry with trips into Vancouver etc. Graham is a youth pastor as well (at the Abbotsford Church of the Nazarene), so he completely understands the difficulty of being 'split' between work and family life. It's too bad that the two of you didn't connect at the CBC Youth Workers conference.
Marie - I know we don't know each other - but as one mom to another - I feel like I can understand a bit of what you are going through. I can't tell you how many "brady" episodes I witnessed where I wondered if my girls would make it. The emotional strength that it takes is something only God can provide. Reading through your journal is a real testimony to your faith in God.
Josiah - There is a purpose for your life - and you have been born into an amazing family. We all have so much to learn from you!
If you are interested in reading our blog, our website is mcmahon-family.blogspot.com. Please know that our hearts and prayers are with you all.
When you don't have the strength to pray - know that your Christian family is praying with you and for you....
With love,
Karyn, Graham, Isaiah, Faith & Makaila McMahon
