Hello Everyone
This will be a bit of a shorter update.
Josiah has been doing fairly well. It seems we have been minimizing his 'freak-out moments' for the time being, much to the relief of his parents :) We are also seeing a little success in our attempts to re-orientate his wake/sleep schedule so that he's no longer prone to being nocturnal.
Yesterday Josiah received his 2-month immunizations (about 2 months past due!) Entering pregnancy Marie and I were hesitant about subjecting our child to immunizations, but we realize that with a trach Josiah's going to need all the help he can get. So we've prayed that Josiah will not experience any long-lasting, permanent effects from his shots. We have heard some of the personal horror stories of immunizations through people in our lives, but so far Josiah has taken them mostly well. He didn't develop a fever after his shots, but he did throw up a couple times over night (without any concern of aspiration - thanks God!) which could be related to the stress/irritation of the shots or the fact that his 'medaz' (sedative) is being weaned. Most babies are weaned every 48 hours when they are coming off medaz, but the doctors have chosen to go Q24 with Josiah so that he can leave the hospital sooner. Obviously, though, if Josiah shows concerning symptoms of 'cold turkey' they will change his plan.
Yesterday Marie and I took our third class of trach care. This one focussed on changing the trach (Yikes!) and how to assess an emergency situation. We'll be returning to the emergency stuff next week, and after that we'll be learning infant CPR. Josiah hasn't had a trach change yet, but I think one will be coming up soon. The doctors/nurses have been really pleased with how his incision wound and trach stoma have been healing - praise God! Also, the yeast and staff infections on his chin have cleared up as well.
Josiah seems to sustain being awake a lot better. I had him in my arms for an hour yesterday morning and he was wide-eyed the whole time! He's just a wiggler - as most babies are at this age - and he has the cutest stretches when he's trying to clear his throat!
Thanks to Lisa and Karen who dropped by to visit Marie on Monday. Karen, for people who don't know, has a son who also has a trach, and has (will) become a valuable sounding board and source of practical wisdom for us!
In God's Grace.

Hey guys Im so glad that Josiah is doing so well. I was also nervous about Kennedy having her shots but she took them well. I was the one that cried. LOL We are all doing well. Mom is healing nicely, but is bored cause she cant do much. No driving, or going to work yet and is still walking with a walker. Kennedy giggled for the first time today. I nearly cried it was so cute. So other than that nothing else too new.
Im just so happy that everything is going well for you all.
Lots of love and prayer,
Christina
